# Cite Mode: Insert citations

Gobu has two modes: **Cite** and **Ask**. This section explains how to use the **Cite** mode.

**1. Switch Between Modes**

* Use the dropdown menu to choose your mode.
  * **Cite** → Get supporting quotes with proper citations.
  * **Ask** → Ask questions; answers will only come from your library.

**2. Select a Project**

* 📂 Choose a project to access its source documents.
* You can switch between your projects by clicking on **@**.

**3. Highlight Text to Get Citations**

* As you write, ✍️ **highlight any text** you want to support with citations.
* The highlighted text will automatically appear in the input field (this may take a few seconds).
* Click **Send** to retrieve relevant citations.

**4. View and Explore Excerpts**

* **Click on a direct excerpt** to expand and read the full quote.
* **Click on the article title** to open Gobu in your browser — it will scroll directly to the exact location of the excerpt.

**5. See Why an Excerpt Was Suggested**

* Click **Show rationale** to read why Gobu selected that specific excerpt for you.

**6. Insert Citations into Your Text**

* Click **+Cite** to add the citation directly to your Word document.
