Cite Mode: Insert citations

Gobu has two modes: Cite and Ask. This section explains how to use the Cite mode.

1. Switch Between Modes

  • Use the dropdown menu to choose your mode.

    • Cite → Get supporting quotes with proper citations.

    • Ask → Ask questions; answers will only come from your library.

2. Select a Project

  • 📂 Choose a project to access its source documents.

  • You can switch between your projects by clicking on @.

3. Highlight Text to Get Citations

  • As you write, ✍️ highlight any text you want to support with citations.

  • The highlighted text will automatically appear in the input field (this may take a few seconds).

  • Click Send to retrieve relevant citations.

4. View and Explore Excerpts

  • Click on a direct excerpt to expand and read the full quote.

  • Click on the article title to open Gobu in your browser — it will scroll directly to the exact location of the excerpt.

5. See Why an Excerpt Was Suggested

  • Click Show rationale to read why Gobu selected that specific excerpt for you.

6. Insert Citations into Your Text

  • Click +Cite to add the citation directly to your Word document.
